Magazine Advert Draft
My magazine advert has taken inspiration from numerous aspects in the music and fashion industry. The text in speech marks has taken influence from graphic and fashion designer Virgil Abloh who is the main designer for the high end brand 'Off White'. He uses quotation marks to provoke the viewer and question the validity of the speech in quotations, which is often used to ask what is the difference between a piece of fashion and a piece of art? I have used the quotation marks for two reasons, one, is because my target audience would understand and make the immediate link between the text on my magazine advert to the brand 'Off White'. Secondly, I want my audience to question what is the ambition of my artist, is it to become famous, or become rich or purely for the enjoyment of creating music?
I also used a very minimalist design, presenting the idea of less is more as well as taking influence from current and modern music magazine adverts, which can be extremely simplistic. For example, the magazine advert as well as the digipak front cover for Kanye West's 'No Artwork 3' album, was simply the album name in the middle on a cream background and the parental advisory symbol at the bottom. Furthermore, the use of a younger self for the magazine advert will show the progression through from the advert, to the digipak and finally to the music video, mirroring the journey from childhood ambitions, to dreams becoming reality and then releasing a number one album when still only 19. The use of a child on advertisement for music has also been used by artists such as Lil Wayne, for his album 'CARTER IV', showing a younger version of himself graduating from school but covered in the current tattoos he has, possibly to show what is going to happen to his body in the future.
